Positive Deviance Concept:
In every community or organization (schools, hospitals, ministries, etc.) there are a few individuals or groups who have overcome or prevented a pervading problem requiring behavior or social change.
Positive Deviance Methodology:
Five basic steps which serve as the backbone of the approach.
The 5 D's are:
Define the problem, its causes and common practices, and articulate desired outcome.
Determine presence of PDs.
Discover their uncommon but successful behaviors & strategies through PD inquiries.
Develop activities based on the inquiry findings.
Discern (monitor and evaluate) the results.
The steps are iterative and a basic template to be adapted to the local or social context. In some cases the steps are repeated on an on-going basis throughout the project.

2019-2020 Overview/ Main Initiative Groups
This year we want to focus on actively being apart of both our school and local communities, and as NHS members take the responsibility upon ourselves to help foster a more interconnected ECG that not only seeks to help our surrounding community, but also uplift each other and be there for other students seeking help. As leaders, it is our duty to ensure that students can depend on us and each other and help establish good relationships with one another.

Tutoring - Emmalyn
Western Guilford High School Tutoring
Transcend (Western Guilford High School Tutoring) will meet every Thursday from 4 to 5 at Western Guilford High School. Bilingual students are needed right now, especially for Spanish! Even if you are taking Spanish now and are not yet fluent, you could be a big help! If you are not bilingual, no worries! Everybody can help in some way! If you are not currently getting Emmalyn's emails about WGHS tutoring, please let me know.
ECG Underclassmen Tutoring (Group & Individual)
ECG Tutoring, which includes both underclassmen and upperclassmen, is based on need. If you need a tutor, please fill out THIS FORM. If you would like to tutor, please contact Emmalyn and she will let you know if someone needs a tutor.
For ECG Tutoring, we will work on getting a box set up in Frasier, so that people can request tutoring that way, too.

Teaching students how to integrate into the college atmosphere
Don't be afraid to branch out to other students
Don't take classes because your friends are taking them; take them because they intrigue you
Don't be intimidated if you're the only ECG student in your class - these students are just like you and can sometimes be good mentors if they have expertise in a field you like
Don't be afraid to go to office hours!!! It's very important to build a good understanding of difficult subjects, and it's an opportunity for your professors (and potential recommenders) to get to know you
